Elected Positions

In the ASG, there are 10 elected positions. Below, you can read about each individual position to determine what role best suits you!

President

Summary:

The President of the Student Body is the Chief Executive Officer of the ASG and the spokesperson for the undergraduate student body. They are responsible for communicating the interests of the student population, as well as the Avery Point community at large, to University Leadership. They are also responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the ASG by building an effective Executive Board and regularly attending all affiliated meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the student body.
  • Oversee all areas of the ASG, including both programming and advocacy efforts.
  • Nominate and appoint students to create an effective Executive Board.
  • Appoint students to serve on various University committees, including the University Senate.
  • Coordinate, set agendas for, and preside over Executive Board meetings.
  • Maintain a consistent relationship with the student body by holding weekly office hours.
  • Organize and participate in events, activities, and initiatives that promote student engagement and welfare.
  • Work closely with the Treasurer to create, propose, and work within semester-long budgets.
  • Prepare, sign, and enforce legislation brought forth by the Elected Board.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at the university, taking a majority of their credits at the Avery Point campus.
  • Must be in good academic standing, meeting the academic requirements set by the university.

Time Requirement: 

The expected time requirement for this position is 10-20 hours per week.

Vice-President

Summary:

The Vice-President of the Student Body is the second-in-command of the ASG. They are primarily responsible for overseeing the event programming efforts and club relations of the ASG. They also coordinate, prepare agendas for, preside over, and cast tie-breaking votes within all Elected Board meetings. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the President in the performance of their duties.
  • Assume the role of the President in the event of their absence.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the ASG and other student organizations.
  • Attend all weekly Executive Board meetings.
  • Prepare agendas for, preside over, and cast tie-breaking votes within all Elected Board meetings.
  • Oversee the event programming, recruiting, and inclusion efforts of the ASG.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at the university, taking a majority of their credits at the Avery Point campus.
  • Must be in good academic standing, meeting the academic requirements set by the university.

Time Requirement: 

The expected time requirement for this position is 2-5 hours per week.

Elected Board Member

Summary:

The eight members of the Elected Board are the legislative voice of the ASG. They are responsible for voting on all matters concerning ASG rules and regulations, finances and budgeting, and statements of position. They are primarily responsible for carrying out the leg work as leaders within their respective Sub-Boards and committees.

Responsibilities:

  • Vote on all matters that come before the Elected Board.
  • Attend all weekly Elected Board meetings.
  • Serve on at least one Sub-Board and at least one standing committee.
  • Actively engage the student body to ensure that their interests are being represented.
  • Occasionally attend the meetings of other student organizations to infer on their state.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student at the university, taking a majority of their credits at the Avery Point campus.
  • Must be in good academic standing, meeting the academic requirements set by the university.

Time Requirement: 

The expected time requirement for this position is 2-5 hours per week.

Appointed Positions

In the ASG, there are a variety of appointed opportunities. Below, you can read about each individual position to determine what role best suits you! Do not be afraid to request a role — the ASG is always in need of more members!

Justice of the ASG

Summary:

The Justice of the ASG holds a vital role in upholding the democratic processes established by the ASG Constitution and By-Laws. They oversee ASG elections, review office removal charges, and rule on matters related to the ASG Constitution and By-Laws. Once appointed, they serve until they either graduate, resign, or are removed from their office.

Treasurer

Summary:

The Treasurer of the Student Body is responsible for the maintenance and oversight of the financial affairs of the ASG. Their duties include regularly reporting on the financial status of the ASG, proposing and tracking semester-long budgets, and filing all required paperwork related to financial affairs. Once appointed, the Treasurer serves a one-year term.

Secretary

Summary:

The Secretary of the Student Body is responsible for much of the administrative work within the ASG. Their duties include the recording of attendance and minutes of meetings, maintaining a calendar of events, handling contact and roster information of members, and supervising the Health & Wellness committee. Once appointed, the Secretary serves a one-year term.

Chief of Staff to the President

Summary:

The Chief of Staff to the President (or simply “Chief of Staff”) is the primary advisor for the President and other Executive Board members as assigned. Their duties include supervising all Constitutional and as hoc members as assigned by the Constitution and By-Laws, handling miscellaneous administrative tasks, and assisting the President in the performance of their duties. Once appointed, the Chief of Staff serves until they either resign or are dismissed.

Strategic Advisors to the President

Summary:

The Strategic Advisors to the President (or simply “Strategic Advisors”) advise the President or other Executive Board members as assigned on the affairs of at least one campus constituency, including First-Year students, Four-Year program students, Student-Athletes, etc. Their duties include regularly interacting with their constituencies and expressing their interests to the ASG. Once appointed, Strategic Advisors serve until they resign or are dismissed.

University Senator

Summary:

The University Senator is the sole undergraduate student from Avery Point serving on the University Senate. Their duties include regularly attending ASG meetings to inform members of their efforts in the University Senate, attending all University Senate and committee meetings they are assigned to, supervising University Senate Committee Members, and representing the interests of the Avery Point campus at large. Once appointed, the University Senator serves a one-year term.

University Senate Committee Member

Summary:

University Senate Committee Members are appointed by the President to serve on various committees that cover different aspects of University affairs. Their duties include attending all meetings of their respective committees and reporting to the University Senator. Once appointed, the University Senate Committee Members serve a one-year term.

Inclusion Director

Summary:

The Inclusion Director of the ASG is responsible for steering the inclusion efforts of the ASG. Their duties include sitting on the Avery Point Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, planning and executing DEI-related events, and advising the ASG to broaden its focus on inclusion. Once appointed, the Inclusion Director serves until they resign or are dismissed.

Communications Director

Summary:

The Communications Director of the ASG is responsible for the marketing and visibility of the organization. Their duties include the curation and maintenance of all ASG-affiliated social media accounts, oversight of the ASG website, and steering the message of the ASG. Once appointed, the Communications Director serves until they resign or are dismissed.

Program Director

Summary:

All students who regularly attend committee meetings shall be considered Program Directors. Their duties include actively participating in brainstorming and planning sessions for events and advocacy efforts, as well as attending and executing campus events.
